I don't care, care, care

'I am gay, gay, gay' says Kath & Kim star

Australian comedian Magda Szubanski has come out of the closet.

"I am gay, gay, gay, gay gay, gay gay," the Kath & Kim star announced to Australian current affairs show The Project.

"Now when I say that, what it means is I am absolutely not straight," the 50-year-old said.

Szubanski - who is working on a film version of her hit TV show, in which she plays bumbling friend Sharon Strzelecki - said friends and family had known about her sexuality for years, but admitting it publicly was a big decision.

"Why did I take a while to do this? I needed to be as solid as I could be so I could do this in the strongest possible way and be really clear about myself," New Idea reported her as saying to radion station 3AW.

Why do gay and lesbian people feel the need to advertise what they do in the privacy of their own bedrooms and who they do it with - to the entire world? Why do they think it is such a big deal? Other than other gays and lesbians i don't think anyone gives a toss. I have no idea why they have to be so nosy on each other's sex lives but can't they just keep it to themselves???

No one cares. Anyone would think these people had found a cure for cancer - the way they make these big announcements.

The only thing this latest outing has done is put me off my breakfast. I could have done without the mental image of Magda Szubanski having sex with ANYONE - let alone...Never mind. I won't go there!

Straight people take for granted their sexual orientation because being in a heterosexual relationship is 'normal'. Gay and Lesbian people go on a massive journey of self discovery before they come to the conclusion and are comfortable enough to come out. I'm speaking from experience because my best friend is gay. Magda's interview was actually really good on The Project and she highlighted issues which need to be dealt with, such as suicide of gay and lesbian teens. I'm surprised at your reaction actually because unlike your other posts it lacks a bit of compassion.

Yeah - it probably lacks more than a bit.

I just can't bring myself to care about other people's sexual orientation.

I am happy to admit that i don't see what the big deal is - or why they feel the need to make these big announcements, have parades, and big gay out days...

Perhaps if everyone had my attitude then gays and lesbians would not have such a struggle coming to terms with it?

Who knows. I sure as heck don't.
