If this kid is not brain damaged i do not know what is...
Carol Oakley needs to be phoning the police every single time her son gets behind the wheel - before he kills someone. It scares the hell out of me that there are parents that know their children are behaving like this - and do nothing but make excuses for them.
Perhaps if she had not inflicted her kid with silly name syndrome from the day he was born he would not be such an idiot.
T and i are off to take Billy to look at cars today. He is buying his first car.
This was not what i needed to see this morning.
Honestly - how does a parent manage to raise such an idiot?

Not a funny one.
It's only a joke for those of you out there who have the brain the size of a chickens!
Dre Oakley wanted a reaction so that's what he's getting...
You have such a way with words S. I love it - but you insult the chickens!
its a shame people like this are being used by the media to portray cannabis users.
there are all sorts of idiots in the world, so what?
that doesn't justify why i should be forced to forfeit my entire future over a drug conviction.
why do i not have the right to decide what i am allowed to consume based on my own educated opinion? where is my freedom?
the drug laws are a disgusting invasion of personal liberty and the media use people like this to fuel that 'war'.
ANON 1:34
WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP.
That is like saying that taking away your right to drive at 200 kilomtres an hour without a seat belt on is a breach of your freedom.
Drug addiction kills people every single day. It is a proven fact that marijuana use causes brain damage and mental health disorders such as schizophrenia.
I sincerely doubt that your entire future has been "forfeited" over a single marijuana conviction. Feel free to go through life using that as an excuse though. That is after all what most drug addicts are best at - blaming others.
Hahaha, lighten up mate, have a bong.
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my comment and yeah, fair point.
Drug addiction is a horrible thing to suffer through and that's why its important we educate people about dangerous drugs (like Meth).
But do you think its fair that if I get caught harmlessly smoking a joint with some friends in some park overlooking the city, I loose the ability to travel overseas, to go to university, to get loans, to get employed anywhere?
I'm a straight A student, I never hurt anyone or cause any trouble. Do I really deserve that punishment?
Haha, I challenge you to give me a single bit of unbiased evidence that supports your claim that cannabis is damaging to the body.
interesting? selling meth holds mandatory minimum jail sentences now.
its good that you feel so strongly about this, just don't let prohibitionists dominate the way you see this issue.
drugs are a health issue, not a criminal one. prohibition only creates more idiots like dre oakley.
aspirin kills more people per year than cannabis, mdma, lsd and many more.
the government spends $91,000 of YOUR money to deal with each arrested non violent offender.
the average gov wage for a teacher is 68,000.
the drug war is backward, expensive and having the opposite effect (more gangs and drugs than ever before).
the majority are scared into prohibition by people like dre.
being an important reporter/blogger like yourself, its important that you do research and send the right message to your readers.
drugs are bad. but if you dont want your kids having access to them,
education > policing
but don't take it from me, you know Richard branson?

I agree to some extent with what you say.
Addiction is an illness that should be treated. We do nothing but create a vicious cycle that is darn near impossible to extricate yourself from once an addict becomes involved in the criminal justice system. I cringe to think where i would be now had i received a prison sentence. I certainly would not be the happy and healthy person that i now am.
There is a fine line though, between treating addicts for their addictions and actually legalising harmful drugs that will destroy lives whether they are legal or not.
Making these drugs legal is not the answer. Altering how addicts are treated and sentenced once they become involved in the justice system - is. Which i believe is something that New Zealand is working towards with a new section within the courts aimed at addicts and their offending.
At the end of the day - it was the fact that what i was doing was illegal, and the realisation that if i continued down the road of drug addiction that i was on - i was going to end up in prison that ultimately saved my life.
Had it not been illegal and had i not learned a hard lesson - had i not been threatened with a life sentence - i would be dead by now.
Yes there were consequences for my actions and the last few years have not been easy but had they been easy - i might not have learned the lessons that i needed to learn. Those consequences are why i am reminded every day of why i will never look back.
Without them and if life had been easy after such awful choices - i might still be tempted.
Two specialised drug courts will be set up in Auckland by early next year, targeting addictions in a bid to dramatically reduce recidivism.
The courts would be a first for New Zealand, as they would be different from the Drug Court based at the Christchurch Youth Court.
Drug courts overseas have had generally positive results in turning around the lives of offenders, with some dramatic cases.
"One guy now has a doctorate. One is a district attorney. They were users on serious drug matters," said District Court Judge Lisa Tremewan, who is leading the initiative with District Court Judge Ema Aitken.
"Obviously that's not going to be everyone, but it can happen, and it's better than what we're doing now," Judge Tremewan said.
She said the courts had made an impact on recidivism rates overseas, and it was a "no brainer" to introduce them to New Zealand.
"The real question is why we haven't done this sooner."
TARGETING ADDICTS
The judiciary is setting up two Drug Courts in Auckland by next year.
What are they?
Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Courts
Based in a District Court. An offender with an addiction problem meets criteria - including admitting their offending - and is sent to a Drug Court.
Benefits
Drug Courts can demand mandatory drug testing and drug assessments, frequent intervention and the involvement of community services such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and treatment programmes.
Results
Properly resourced Drug Courts can reduce crime by up to 26 per cent, research shows.

Yeah, but how much more of your money are they going to spend on a system that is fundamentally wrong?
They say that if you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it, what happened in the 1920s with the alcohol prohibition is happening again but on a much larger scale. - Drugs are the gangs main source of income.
drug abuse is a problem, but treat the root cause and not the symptoms.
The current laws are all based on a politician's opinion, not fact. I'm not saying that we should fully legalise, but why not think about some scientifically sound alternatives?
Look at other countries that have decrim'd. you'll see only positive changes. - that is FACT
@Anonymous "aspirin kills more people per year than cannabis, mdma, lsd and many more" - please prove this. Awesome to know that 'many more' is now a drug. Go on, I D.A.R.E you
Please - give me an example of where legalising harmful drugs has resulted in positive change for the addicts.
I don't even know why i am having this debate. You are high right now if you think drugs like meth or marijuana are ever going to be legal here in New Zealand.
I fully agree that once an addict is entangled in the criminal justice system that their addiction should be treated as an illness. They should receive help - at all cost. However just because someone is sick does not mean that they have a free license to break the law, and you will never have me agreeing that substances that damage our brains, and cause serious mental health disorders should be made legal.
The problem is the addicts. Not the laws. Find out what it is that makes an addict want to alter their state of reality - get to the real root of the problem and get addicts help - fix lives.
Enabling them to slowly kill themselves does not help anyone.
No demand = no supply = fixes the whole gang problem you brought up. If no one is buying their product then they have no profit. Do they?
yeah, that's the unfortunate thing. people are not progressive minded enough here to understand any other ways of dealing with this issue.
Drug addiction is bad, but regulating drugs has been shown to decrease drug addiction rates substantially.
Here is a report showing what effect decrim drugs has had in Portugal and some proper stats - as you can see, all good.
As for D.A.R.Eing to back up my claim that most illicit drugs are harmless.
Deaths caused by stuff, cannabis last on the list in fact cannabis has neuroprotective properties, it even stimulates new brain cell growth. and can even prevent/reverse Alzheimers
A study on MDMA that shows it's pretty harmless
A study showing that psilocybin (which has been used for thousands of years) is good for you
I could go on, but when I say "and many more" I mean there are seriously many banned substances that shouldnt be. 2-CB, LSD, mescaline, DMT, THC/CBD to say the least.
These substances are all non addictive, good vibe, "lets be friends and enjoy the world together" drugs.
Not to be confused with Meth or heroin, which are horribly destructive. - but unfortunately, the first thing people think of when they hear drugs is "ooh needles" and instantly decide to ignore any rational debate.
While the educated happy folk like myself, who enjoy recreationally consuming (relatively harmless) drugs, are forced to suffer because of other people's blissful ignorance.
and as long as there are humans intelligent enough to be curious about what life is like with an altered consciousness, there will always be demand for those substances.
Anandamide is involved in regulating mood, memory, appetite, pain, cognition, and emotions. When cannabis is introduced into the body, its active ingredient, Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), can therefore interfere with all of these functions.
THC begins this process by binding to the CB1 receptors for anandamide. These receptors then modify the activity of several intracellular enzymes, including cAMP, whose activity they reduce. Less cAMP means less protein kinase A. The reduced activity of this enzyme affects the potassium and calcium channels so as to reduce the amount of neurotransmitters released. The general excitability of the brain's neural networks is thus reduced as well.
However, in the reward circuit, just as in the case of other drugs, more dopamine is released. As with opiates, this paradoxical increase is explained by the fact that the dopaminergic neurons in this circuit do not have CB1 receptors, but are normally inhibited by GABAergic neurons that do have them. The cannabis removes this inhibition by the GABA neurons and hence activates the dopamine neurons.
In chronic consumers of cannabis, the loss of CB1 receptors in the brain's arteries reduces the flow of blood, and hence of glucose and oxygen, to the brain. The main results are attention deficits, memory loss, and impaired learning ability - which we so obviously see evident here in our wee friend Dre.
PROVEN FACTS re the damage that marijuana use causes to the brain.
Perhaps you should look at what it is that makes you so unsatisfied with life and reality to the point that you are willing to poison yourself in order to alter it - rather than patting yourself on the back and telling yourself and others that this behaviour is because you are "intelligent".
Just a suggestion.
@Anonymous yeah thanks straight 'A' student for a bunch of Wikipedia stats and reports from niche markets. I could have done the same Google search and got the same selection of pages. Clearly well researched in your topic. How on earth do you define positive change in Portugal? Social costs have increased and a higher number of drugs have been seized.
You missed my point. Your claim was: "aspirin kills more people per year than cannabis, mdma, lsd and many more" and you failed to prove it. For the record if you get caught smoking a joint in a park you won't instantly lose a substantial number of your civil rights. Stop playing the victim and get pro-active in your argument
Not sure if it is the same Anonymous - but i failed to start taking his links seriously when he started with Richard Branson.
lol. there is no hope.
you people are so dumb,
If you don't fully understand this picture, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
http://kingstoncompassion.org/cannabisandcapitalism.jpg
@Anonymous Wow, I never realised how dumb I was. Why on earth have I ever voted! Someone should have pointed out that cannabis is the only issue facing NZ! Silly me. Thankfully now i've read that hugely informative infographic. I am now smart and able to vote.
lol - You bothered to look at it? I didn't - until just now.
Crack up.
Kinda reminds me of an argument that i had with my son recently about steroid use.
I showed him all the proof in the world that steroids will screw your body up to the point where you will most likely die of a heart attack at 40 - he replied with quotes from a documentary he had watched - made by bodybuilders.
