Who made Ken Lees Chief Commissioner of the Poverty Police?

What a dork.

What did Ken Lees do on Christmas Day? He enlisted the help of his family and friends to spend their Christmas Day monitoring what other people were getting for Christmas, what they were eating, and then following them back to their cars to see what kind of vehicle they drove.

Is this guy for real???

Passerby blasts 'disgusting show of greed' at lunch for needy

Tauranga resident Ken Lees, who visited Auckland for four days over Christmas, said he walked past the lunch and was "absolutely disgusted at this display of ungrateful greed".

"We were astounded at the 'needy' - some dressed in label clothing - leaving a large area littered with uneaten food and unopened bottles of water."

He was also "gobsmacked to see hordes of the 'poverty-stricken' pushing each other out of the way, arms outstretched, grovelling. They returned again and again to get more gifts to stash.

"We followed many families back to where they stashed their loot into expensive late-model people-movers."

Ken Lees is probably right. There may well have been a few people that visited the City Mission on Christmas Day that were not starving and that might have worn their best clothing for the occasion.

You really have to wonder about Ken's perception of the word "greed" though, when you stop and think about where you would go if you were having a particularly greedy - feeling moment. I think the Auckland City Mission on Christmas Day, where i would have to share a meal with thousands of other people would be the last place i would go - but hey - i'm no expert on the behaviour of the greedy.

Mr Lees also took it upon himself to criticise what the people at the Mission for lunch on Christmas Day were wearing.

Some of the 2000 people who attended a free Christmas lunch arrived in nice cars, wore good clothing and donned flash jewellery including a watch that looked like a Rolex.

I have a lot of  good clothing - most of it purchased for under ten dollars at Savemart or some other second hand / opshop type place. I sincerely doubt that the guests at the Mission were donning their best Versace suits and lugging Louis Vuitton hand bags. "Label" clothing can be purchased at the Otara Markets, for Pete's sake.

The fact that those people chose to go to the Mission on their Christmas Day in itself proves that they are needy - of something - and Ken Lees should take his judgmental attitude and stick it in his compost bin.
